MeasureRoom — Free Flooring & Square Footage Calculator
Draw your room's shape or enter the dimensions. MeasureRoom works out the area and the materials you'll need — no sign-up, no spreadsheet.
How it works
Three steps to an estimate
From an empty room to a materials list in under a minute.
01
Draw or measure
Sketch the room shape on a grid, or type in length and width. L-shapes and alcoves welcome.
02
Set waste allowance
Add 5–15% for cuts and pattern matching. We suggest a sensible default.
03
Get your estimate
See total area in m² and ft², and an indicative cost for your chosen flooring type.
Flooring types
Estimate for any finish
Indicative material costs per square metre — supply only, before fitting.
Laminate
£8 – £25 / m²
Hard-wearing and budget-friendly, with a click-fit system that floats over most subfloors.
Engineered Wood
£30 – £70 / m²
A real timber top layer on a stable plywood core. Copes better with underfloor heating.
Carpet Calculator
£10 – £40 / m²
Warm and quiet underfoot. Calculate how much carpet you need for bedrooms, stairs and living spaces.
FAQ
Square footage, explained
How do I calculate the square footage of a room?
Measure the length and width in the same unit and multiply them. A room 4 m long and 3 m wide is 12 m² (about 129 ft²). For irregular rooms, split into rectangles and add the areas.
How do I convert square metres to square feet?
Multiply m² by 10.764 to get ft², or divide ft² by 10.764 to get m². So 20 m² is roughly 215 ft². MeasureRoom shows both figures automatically.
How much waste should I allow?
For straight-lay in a simple room, 5–10% covers cuts and offcuts. Allow 10–15% for diagonal layouts or rooms with lots of corners. The calculator adds your chosen percentage automatically.
How do I measure an L-shaped room?
Split the floor into two rectangles, measure each and add the areas. Or use the Draw tool to trace the outline directly — it handles the maths for any shape.
Does the estimate include underlay or fitting?
No — MeasureRoom gives you the floor area and indicative material cost only. Underlay, beading, adhesive and fitting are separate. Treat it as a starting point for quotes.
